Power Outage on Move-In Day? Peninsula to the Rescue!

This case came to us through a referral from another happy client. The client had asked for our help finding a flat in Vauxhall and setting up her utilities in advance. Thanks to the ample lead time, we had everything sorted—water, electricity, and Wifi accounts were ready to go. All that was left was to activate them on her move-in day.


But then the unexpected happened.


Shortly after collecting her keys and stepping into her new home, she sent a panicked message to our group chat: “There’s no electricity in the flat! I’ve tried the switches, but nothing works!”


Imagine walking into a pitch-black flat on your very first day—it was both frustrating and comical. Since the letting agent was too busy to assist, our team jumped in immediately to help.


Why Was the Power Out? Unpaid Bills!

Based on our experience, we suspected the issue was due to unpaid bills from the previous tenant. It’s a common scenario when an outgoing tenant neglects their final payments. To confirm, we contacted the electricity provider right away and explained the situation.


For those unfamiliar with dealing with UK customer service, it can feel like an endless maze. We were passed around multiple departments before finally reaching someone who could assist. After what felt like an eternity, the power was restored.


The Power Came Back—Only to Go Out Again!

Just as we were celebrating, the electricity cut out again within an hour! At this point, even we were feeling the strain, but we didn’t give up. Picking up the phone again, we worked with the provider to recharge the meter and ensure the issue was fully resolved. This time, the power stayed on for good.


Crisis Averted, Time to Handle the Rest

With the “power drama” behind us, we turned our attention to setting up the other utilities. First up was activating the internet, which brought the client back to the modern world. Finally, we walked her through how to top up her electricity meter to avoid any future outages.

Although her move-in day started with a bit of chaos, we were thrilled to see her settle into her new home smoothly. It’s always satisfying to turn things around for our clients and ensure their London experience gets off to the best possible start.
